Does what we are choosing reflect what we most deeply value?

To live a life that reflects what we most deeply value takes true mindfulness.  Many times I am not even present enough in the moment to know what I am choosing, to even know that there is a "choosing" taking place.  Rather it feels more like being on autopilot.  To forget that we have a choice is to give up our power.  I may forget what my values are - truth, authenticity, compassion, forgiveness, freedom.  But when I make the commitment to just sit, to just breathe and be in the moment - they are there.  And it is like I am coming home to my self.
