It's the Little Things

I can't help but slow down whenever I pass by a jewelry store, taking in the pretty, often extravagant window display. Despite the fact that my daily jewelry is 99.9% consistent - simple pearl or small diamond studs, one simple gold ring on my right ring finger, and a delicate gold watch. Classic. Simple. That's me!  Every now and then I'll either receive a new piece of jewelry as a gift, or buy something special for myself, but I always default back to my favorites.

It's no surprise that Etsy has some options for beachy jewelry just in case you're fancy.

But the 'little things' aren't just about cute charms or a gold necklace to dress up your wardrobe.  This week I'm making the intention to show up for the little things in my day.  The shape of the clouds in the sky.  The smell of my coffee before I take a sip.  Spending a few minutes to chat with the neighbor about their day. Connection. Mindfulness. Love.

Summa Time

After a hundred years   4 months of winter and hibernation its time to shed the heavy denim & cords, clunky boots, & chunky sweaters, and break out the light airy pretty dresses that remind me why I love being a girl.  And these dresses from Target are a bargain to boot.

Mossimo V-neck Skater Dress
$20.00

Merona Ruffle Sleeve Dress
$34.99

Liz Lange Maternity Ruffled Knit Dress
(Yes I did actually try this on last time I was at Target - No, I'm not pregnant!)

Have you seen good bargains anywhere for cute summer dresses?

Today looks like an early morning meditation sesh, a late morning bike ride, some yard work, and a bbq. Gotta love summertime. Have a great Sunday Funday!

Getting Fancy

Yesterday I did this

So that in one week I can do this

I am a lucky girl!

It's Friday today. Anyone that works in an office setting knows that every Friday is like a holiday. Everyone walks around saying "Happy Friday!", and adds little notes to the bottom of their emails like, "Have a great weekend!"  Usually at our office we walk right in Friday morning and greet each other with, "We made it!" and then we have a very formal podium ceremony where each employee receives a gold medal.

TTYL!

Don't Settle.

workisnotajob.com

A friend of a friend of mine started a company up in Boulder, CO (naturally) called Re-Work.  According to their website , ReWork "gather(s) sharp, ambitious, and passionate professionals who are HUNGRY for meaningful work - people who want to use their skills and talent to make the world a better place."

I visit their site often, it's inspiring.  Find those sites that inspire you, and visit them often!

Is there something you have been wanting to do for a while, but haven't? What's holding you back?  This is not a dress rehearsal!

Waves of Change

I am super-sentimental lately.  There has been a lull to blogging short posts with cute nautical accessories and a strong urge to post deep revelations and thought-provoking watercolor portraits like the one below called York Beach Thunderstorm by Phyllis Bryce.

Perhaps it's even this blog, somehow touching into something deeper within me, a longing to be more creative, to trust an inner voice, to take a plunge.

I have never been much of a risk taker though.  And yet trying to balance an external comfort in safety with a deep hunger for abundance and authenticity leaves me feeling always at odds with my own self somehow.

Can you relate???

Hidden Anchor Cards

These cards are the nautical version of Where's Waldo.

Aren't they cute?

I sent a card last week to an old friend (well she is young, but we've been friends for a long time.  We're actually like sisters, but its a long story for another time.) So technically last week I sent a card to a young old friend/sister-sort-of.  A real card. In the mail. Not email. Not on facebook. I bought a card. Wrote her a note inside. Put a stamp on it. (Then stamped it of course with my adorable bicycle return address stamp). And I dropped it in a blue mailbox on the corner at the grocery store (well actually I dropped it in the garbage can NEXT to the mailbox and then after realizing what I had done I had to take it out of the garbage can and then put it in the mailbox. Ugh.)

What is my point to this longwinded story?  Getting mail makes you feel special. And loved. And sending mail teaches you patience. I love to send"just because" cards to people I love.  It brings me joy.

The end.

This Little Light of Mine

This watercolor is the work of artist Chris Ballasiotes.

It makes me think of that song I sang as a child.

This little light of mine.
I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine.
I'm gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Today (and every day) let YOUR light shine.

A Day for Showers

It's Shower Day today! Both figuratively and literally. Today I'm co-hosting a bridal shower for my dear sweet friend Allyson. She is getting married in Playa del Carmen later this month.  We are also expecting rain showers in Durango. Durango is right on track with unpredictable and inconsistent spring weather - from 70 degrees and sunny to hail to rain and snow.

I found this on Pinterest. Ahhhhhh how things change.

Cape Cod Real Estate Anyone?

If "window shopping" for real estate is wrong then I just don't want to be right.

This is more of a family home, so I will file this one away for future use.

I've actually never been to the Cape, but when I picture it this is exactly what I imagine...

I don't know what you would call this style of architecture, but I can tell you you won't find it in Durango, CO that is for sure!

Lot's of windows, the sunshine just pours right in.

The kitchen spills into the dining room which spills into the living room.

I'm sure there are many late night card games played around this big round table (and lots of early morning oatmeal and OJ's at the breakfast bar).

Built-ins are a must in my future home.

I don't love the color scheme (above or below) but it works in this home.

Another family of boys I presume.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Here's what Century 21 Regan Realtors says about this Barnstable MA home:

Cape Cod living at its best!  This shingle style home offers views Nantucket Sound and ever-changing marsh views. You will live on one of three decks and enjoy fabulous sunsets.  The open floor plan is ideal for entertaining crowds or just enjoying the family.  Don't miss this perfect Cape Cod home.  You have found your dream.

Where is your dream home?

Bunk Beds for a Beach Home

I found these cute bunk beds for beach homes on pinterest. I've been playing around with doing creative things with the images using Adobe Illustrator, but can't figure out how to upload the Illustrator files into blogger quite yet.  So you can look forward to that sometime soon.

This is so clever- the beds look like they are hanging. And the Blue and white lifesavor adds a nice touch.

This appears to have been a family of boys.

Using letters and words as art is always a creative way to decorate your walls.  These beds are connected in a simple structure, so this would be easy to build yet would accommodate guests well in your beach home.

The patterned carpet and chairs is a little too busy for my tastes. But I love the way this room opens up onto the large white deck with an ocean view. And each bed has a pretty blue 'privacy' curtain - a nice touch.

This 'built-in' takes a lot of planning into the structure and design of the room, but it is well worth it in the end. Stunning.

This is almost a living room that doubles a bedroom. The colors are bright, fresh, and add a 'grown-up' touch to the bunk bed design.

Did you sleep in bunk beds as a kid?  (I did!)

Easter. Happy!

Well Easter here in Durango, CO was a happy one. An egghunt (150 eggs. 140 filled with chocolate, 10 filled with money.)  Good friends. A bike ride. Sushi. Girl time. And snuggled under my new Roberta Roller Rabbit Orange Fish Blanket from E. Bunny. (Thank you!)

New Soft Cozy Blanket from E. Bunny

Pre-egg hunt!

The girls, post egg-hunt.

And the nephew.  Keeps getting cuter somehow.

I hope you all had a great day.

Ocean Inspired Letterpress

Parrot Design Studio did an amazing job with these ocean inspired Save the Date cards.  I love the colors she used, and the seagulls are my favorite part.

I'm becoming more interested in the art of letterpress lately. I've always dreamed of opening my own paper store, especially after a trip to Italy in high school.  Italian stationary is beautiful. Delicate. Detailed. Intentional.  I believe the brand I discovered there back in 1999 was Rossi.
